Building skills for tomorrow: Training of Trainers for GREEN Gambia

For the EU funded Erasmus+ project GREEN Gambia, Gambia College, Gambian Songhai Initiative (GSI), LICEUL TEHNOLOGIC HARLAU (LTC), and CINOP joined forces to organize an inspiring Training of Trainers (ToT) for staff from Gambia College and GSI.

The training focused on equipping teachers and trainers to work with the newly developed curricula on Food Processing, Eco-Tourism, Entrepreneurship, and Job Readiness. This activity also marked the official start of the first pilot phase, in which students will begin training with these new programs. To celebrate this important milestone, we were honored to welcome representatives from the European Union as well as the  Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sport Mr. Camara.

The Eco-Tourism and Food Processing curricula, combined with a strong work-based learning component, aim to equip students with practical and relevant competences that increase their employability in these growing sectors. For those who aspire to start their own businesses, an Entrepreneurship curriculum based on the EntreComp framework has been developed to strengthen entrepreneurial competences.

EntreComp defines entrepreneurship as: “Entrepreneurship is when you act upon opportunities and ideas and transform them into value for others. The value created can be social, cultural, or financial.” These are not only business skills, they are competences for life.

In addition, the Job Readiness curriculum prepares young people for the labour market and provides them with practical tools for a confident and smooth transition into employment. During the ToT, strong emphasis was placed on these four curricula. Beyond content, we also integrated coaching skills and a gender-responsive approach, ensuring that teaching staff are well equipped to guide students in an inclusive and supportive way.

The training was highly appreciated and enthusiastically received by all participants. It was an energizing and meaningful start and a strong foundation for empowering students in the months ahead.
