Project launch: capacity building of Maritime and Shipbuilding polytechnics in Surabaya

The kick-off of a new project in Indonesia is a fact. In partnership with the Dutch Shipping and Transport College (STC) and the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) in Surabaya, CINOP has embarked on a two years project for strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training in the maritime and logistics sector in Indonesia.
The project
The project is implemented in the framework of the Bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Maritime Cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands. Within this MoU the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Indonesia is supporting initiatives between the Netherlands and Indonesia in the maritime sector, regarding among others capacity building, of which this project is an example.
The project aims specifically at building the capacities of two polytechnics (Technical Education which is focused on practical and skill oriented training) in Surabaya:
- Polytechnic Pelayaran Surabaya (PPS) for Maritime Shipping
- Politeknik Perkapalan Negeri Surabaya (PPNS) for Shipbuilding
Results
The project envisages the following results: (1) Development/modernization of curricula, (2) develop and implement training for teachers and (3) accreditation and certification of the curricula. Thereby the implementation parties (STC International, CINOP and ITS) will focus on didactical training, subject matter training and curricula development.
